On Saturday, March 7, 1970 Jane's portrayal of Anne Maria Moody in the six-part London Weekend Television series "The Wicked Women" aired. Each chapter featured a notorious Victorian lady criminal who killed to try to escape the miserable situation of her life.
In the 4th chapter, Jane, as the demure-looking Anne, in 1860 lured an infatuated money-lender into trying to murder her protector for his money. "I've never played a woman as wicked as that before," Jane said. Jane sympathized with her character's plight: "She (Anne Maria Moody) owed a great deal of money trying to be better off socially than she was. When she was pestered by debt collectors, her situation became quite desperate. There was a great deal of Victorian pressure on her because she wasn't married, just living with a man, calling herself his wife. When one of the debt collectors threatens to reveal her secret she feels even more desperate".
