Stage special: 'Summer', 1968

On July 10th Romain Weingarten's play Summer opened on July 10th 1968 at the Fortune Theatre in London.

May 31, 1968 - Jane researches Cats for her first starring role on the West End stage in Romain Weingarten's play "Summer". "It's a break from the classic roles and I'm nervous. But I can't wait to do it," said Jane who is the only girl in a cast of four. 


July 9th 1968, Summer press night. Jane Asher (as Lorette), Malcolm Patton as her simple-minded brother Simon and Brian Murphy as the cat Lord Garlic.
















Summer is set in the garden of a big country house where a girl, Lorette, teaches her simple minded brother Simon the facts of life. The other two characters are cats, named Half Cherry and Lord Garlic, played by Bryan Pringle and Brian Murphy.
